Health Minister Confirms Team Canada Now Eligible for MAID After Devastating Loss to Americans

OTTAWA — Following the “unbearable psychological trauma” of a 2-1 overtime loss to the United States in the Milano-Cortina 2026 gold medal game, Federal Health Minister Marjorie Michel has confirmed that every member of the men’s national hockey team is now eligible for Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID).

The decision comes after a heartbreaking Jack Hughes goal on Sunday sent millions of Canadians into a state of “irremediable grief,” a condition the government has quickly fast-tracked for terminal classification. “While we usually suggest MAID for Canadians who can’t find an affordable two-bedroom apartment or those with minor hearing loss, losing to the Americans on the anniversary of the ‘Miracle on Ice’ is a level of suffering no human should be forced to endure,” Minister Michel said while carefully checking to see if her government-funded pension had vested yet.

Medical experts across the country have shifted their focus from sports psychology to final paperwork. Dr. Jean-Luc Sansvie, a prominent MAID provider in Montreal, noted that the lack of a Sidney Crosby game-winner has created a national “will-to-live deficit” that can only be solved with a taxpayer-funded final buzzer. “We saw the 42 shots on net. We saw the missed power play. If that doesn’t qualify as a valid reason to opt-out of the 2030 Games, I don’t know what does,” Sansvie remarked.

Minister Michel was later seen at the airport personally handing out MAID brochures to members of the Women’s National Team. She reportedly told the athletes that assisted death was the “most inclusive and equitable solution” for women forced to return to the PWHL to play for a fraction of what their male counterparts make for losing.

At publishing time, the CBC was preparing a 6-part documentary series titled The Ultimate Assist, praising the government’s “bravery” in helping the team reach their final destination.
